Archangel Michael
“Now war arose in heaven Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.” Revelation 12:7-8
Michael, the lead archangel, is portrayed here in armor as the warrior who commands the hosts of heaven in spiritual battle. Michael the Archangel is one of the three angels named in Sacred Scripture. In icons, the angel Michael is traditionally shown wearing a red cloak.
Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do you,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
