Logos Emmanuel
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
In this icon, Christ Emmanuel, the Word among us, is shown as a child full of wisdom beyond his years. His right hand rests on his lap in a blessing gesture. The inscription IC XC is an abbreviation for Jesus Christ, being the first and last letters of his name in Greek. In the cruciform halo are etched the Greek letters O Ѡ N, “I am.” The red vertical stripe on Christ’s garment is a clavus, symbolic of authority. The white garment represents light and resurrection, and the gold robe represents divinity and glory.
